In 2006 Offshore Tournaments, Inc., host to the Mikelson Yachts Catalina Classic and Riviera Zane Grey Invitational Marlin Tournament took a bold new step for conservation and implemented a "Circle Hook Only, 100% Release" new event. This decision made the Contender Avalon Billfish Classic the first major Striped Marlin Tournament in the Western United States to implement this conservation strategy. The 1st Annual Avalon Billfish Classic was great success and we once again look forward to this unique event. The 3rd Annual Contender Avalon Billfish Classic is scheduled for September 7th–9th in the famed California waters off Avalon on Catalina Island. The 2008 event will again feature a "ProAm" format with separate Tournament and Daily Jackpot prizes to qualified "Amateur" teams. This "NO FEAR" division will allow all teams of different skill levels to compete in one of California's premier billfishing events.
