To give the California Billfish Series a fresh new feel, the Tournament Committee decided to invest in custom-built bronze sculptures to award the winners of each event.

The teams that win the events in the California Billfish Series, including the Zane Grey Invitational, Avalon Billfish Classic and Catalina Classic, represent the best marlin crews on the West Coast. These boys work extremely hard to find that winning fish, and they deserve a world-class trophy to celebrate their accomplishments!
With that in mind, the Tournament Committee decided to really step up the quality of the trophies and ordered custom-made bronze sculptures from one of the premiere foundries in the world. The top three teams in each event will receive a set of bronze sculptures that can be displayed as works of art.
The Tournament Committee picked three different color combinations — each event will have a different combo. That way, if you get real hot and win more than one event, you will have different sculptures to show off your victories.
We just got word from the foundry that the trophies are being created as we speak, and they look amazing! These aren’t cheapo trophies guys, they’re heavy, bronze pieces that will dress up the salon on any boat. Win one of these bad boys and you will definitely be the envy of everyone on the dock.
The third place team will receive a set of trophies featuring a singular marlin. The second-place team will be awarded a trophy with a pair of billfish. And, the big winner gets the largest trophy! Measuring more than 20 inches high this sculpture features three marlin on a a beautiful base.
Of course there is still the perennial trophy that all winners get to place their name on. This monster cup is currently at the tournament’s home office and we’re looking for a new home to show it off.
The striped marlin sightings are already way better than this time last year. We’ve heard of a few jig strikes at the Slide and 14 Mile Bank. It looks like the fish are going to show this year, so we hope to see you out on Catalina in September for the Zane Grey, Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic.
Don’t forget that registration is open. Please make sure to fill out your registration form so you don’t miss out on this great opportunity.
