Summer is definitely here and we’ve already heard of a few marlin sightings and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for a good offshore season.
In case you weren’t aware, we at www.BDOutdoors.com have taken over the California Billfish Series and I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.
As a lifelong Southern California angler, I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working with the boats and teams that participate in the California Billfish Series. The series, as many of you know is made up of the Zane Grey Invitational, which kicks things off, running from September 11-13. The Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic are fished simultaneously from September 18-20. Together these three events make up the most prestigious, big-money marlin tournaments in California, and I’m here to tell you that our team will do whatever it takes to bring the good times back to Catalina and put on a world-class tournament series.
Since we took over the tournaments, we’ve been reaching out to past participants, captains and winners to see what we can do to improve upon the events. We’ve also been working closely with former tournament director Rod Halperin, who has been a great asset. We want to run an event that all participants look forward to each year, and we are open to any and all feedback. We welcome your thoughts on how we can make these world-class events even better.
We’ve got a great lineup of activities and banquets planned for each tournament and we’ve already signed on a headline sponsor, Typhoon Polarized Optics. We are also in the process of rebuilding the tournament website, which should be up and running the last week of July, so make sure to check www.catalinaclassic.com for tournament updates.
We’re committed to making the California Billfish Series a success and we hope to see you in Catalina this September. Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts, and thank you for your support.
